In 2014, the major art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper at the Tower of London captivated the public. Over several months, 888,246 ceramic poppies were planted by an army of volunteers in the Tower’s moat, each poppy representing a British or colonial life lost during the First World War. This powerful visual tribute drew over 5 million visitors, marking a significant moment in the UK’s commemorative history.

Since 2015, the UK’s First World War centenary arts programme, 14-18 NOW, has showcased two key sculptural elements of the installation, Wave and Weeping Window, at historic locations across the UK. These iconic sculptures were seen by over 4 million people, concluding their tour at IWM North and IWM London in 2018.

This SECOND EDITION book features notes from Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, as well as a special foreword by HRH The Duke of Cambridge. The journey of each tour venue is shared by those who were part of it and brought to life with specially commissioned photography. Poppies: Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red is the only official publication documenting the journey of this landmark artwork.
